Fly-in for Gynecomastia Surgery
If you do not live in the Southern California area and you want to have treatment of your gynecomastia, are likely to be outstanding plastic surgeons in your area. Gynecomastia is indeed a common condition and is a routine part of plastic surgery training. To find a plastic surgeon near you, check with the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS) or the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) for a surgeon in your area. Their websites are: plasticsurgery.org (ASPS) and surgery.org (ASAPS)
If you would like to come to the Beverly Hills area to see Dr. Teitelbaum in Santa Monica for treatment of your gynecomastia , it is possible to coordinate a consultation by phone. Email our patient coordinator, Vicki Koplow, at vicki@drteitelbaum.com. She will ask you to send photos of yourself framed from the neck to the belly button taken from the front, the side, and the oblique (45 degree) angles. A time can be set up for Dr. Teitelbaum to call you with your pictures in front of him to discuss your case.
It has long been commonplace for plastic surgery patients to search around the country - and even the world - to find the best plastic surgeon to meet their needs. This tradition began in the early days when there were only a few qualified aesthetic surgeons, and continues to this day as patients think more globally and are willing to travel for what they perceive to be the best. We understand that it is a big emotional step to decide to travel to have plastic surgery, and we will do our best to assure your safety, convenience, and total relaxation should you wish to come to us for your plastic surgery.
Dr. Teitelbaum's reputation and word-of-mouth referrals from his many satisfied patients around the United States and overseas, means that a significant number of his patients live outside the Los Angeles area. We are therefore experienced at achieving a safe and hassle-free experience for patients that live outside the Southern California area. While for some patients, recovering from aesthetic surgery near family and friends is a plus, for many others, the privacy and anonymity associated with an out of town plastic surgeon away from the gaze of friends and acquaintances creates a tranquility that better serves their needs.
Male chest reduction surgery can be done on patients traveling from outside of Southern California. While obviously most of our patients come from Los Angeles, Santa Monica, and Beverly Hills, Dr. Teitelbaum performs surgery to correct gynecomastia on patients from outside of California. He will tell you how long to remain in the Los Angeles area after correction of your gynecomastia in order to allow you to plan your trip.
We also are accustomed to helping local patients "get lost" for a few days. Even patients that live nearby in Santa Monica, Brentwood, and Beverly Hills often will approach their plastic surgery as if they were from out of town, staying at Serenity for immediate aftercare and then at local hotels. This way they can keep their plastic surgery a secret and can "return" home to Los Angeles as if they had just been on vacation.
Consultation - Photos can be sent to Dr. Teitelbaum by either e-mail or snail mail. With the photos in front of him, Dr. Teitelbaum will consult with a patient on the phone and create a surgical plan. Your evaluation will be as thorough and as detailed as if you met the doctor in person. He gives patients his personal e-mail, which many out of town patients find convenient for asking lingering questions. He will make sure that all questions are answered before a patient embarks to Los Angeles for their plastic surgery.
Pre-Operative Clearance - In most cases, the doctor will need some preoperative blood work, as well an x-ray or EKG, and in some cases, preoperative "clearance" from your personal physician.. His office will coordinate this with your personal physician. If you do not already have one, it is likely that Dr. Teitelbaum will know one to refer you to. Patients with significant medical issues will be asked to come to Los Angeles several days earlier than usual to meet a local internist that can assist in their management.
Travel Arrangements - Dr. Teitelbaum's entire staff is accustomed to meeting the needs of out of town patients. In particular, his surgical coordinator will help you as necessary with travel arrangements, transfers, hotels, preoperative clearance, and your postoperative care. Typically, the doctor will want to see you in person the day before your plastic surgery to review your case and to complete your examination and consultation.
Accommodations - Most of our patients stay in one of a number of nearby new luxury hotels in Santa Monica, while others stay at old "stalwarts" in Beverly Hills or Bel Air. Others stay at a friend's house. One of the advantages of the Santa Monica hotels is that Dr. Teitelbaum often "makes rounds" in these hotels on his way to and from the office, saving many patients the inconvenience of coming into the office for their check-ups. There is even a very nice hotel directly across the street from the office.
Postoperative Care - Depending on your surgery, you may spend the night of surgery back at your hotel with a friend or a private nurse. Or you may require- or prefer - staying at an "after-care" facility. One of the many benefits of our office is that it happens to be located across the street from Serenity, the premiere plastic surgery after-care facility in Southern California- and perhaps anywhere. Serenity is the preferred facility for plastic surgeons throughout Los Angeles and Beverly Hills, and we are pleased to be across the street. When you are far from home, it will be comforting to know that your plastic surgeon is literally a minute away (and he lives only five minutes away.). And merely crossing the street in a limousine beats a ride across town, not just right after plastic surgery, but for post-op visits as well. And just being across the street, Dr. Teitelbaum makes at least twice-daily rounds at Serenity, saving patients even that short of a trip.
Your return home - Based on the exact details of your case, Dr. Teitelbaum will tell you how long you must be in the Los Angeles area. It will vary with the plastic surgical procedure (e.g. a longer stay is required for a tummy tuck than a facelift, which is longer than for a breast augmentation, which is longer than for liposuction,), your particular medical condition, how far from home you will be, how you will be traveling back, etc. He will take every step to help you return home as safely and soon as possible. For instance, he routinely uses special absorbable sutures that do not need to be removed. He also uses a special "tissue glue" that decreases the need for drains and quickens recovery.
One concern of many patients is what they will do if they ever develop a problem after they return home in the weeks or months after surgery. Dr. Teitelbaum understands this concern. Fortunately, it is indeed rare for this to actually happen, but when it does, the doctor will always try to arrange for a nearby friendly colleague to see you. This has never yet been a problem. We maintain close contact with all of our patients, and if anything, we communicate even more frequently with the patients from outside Southern California to be absolutely certain that they are doing well.
